Trois poèmes de Jean Cocteau

July 11, 2009

After the post before last, let’s have some more vintage Milhaud: Jane Bathori singing the brief Trois poèmes de Jean Cocteau (1920), recorded circa March 1929. It was the work immediately following his Cocteau ballet Le boeuf sur le toit. The songs’ titles are Fumée, Fête de Bordeaux and Fête de Montmartre. Bathori announces them, Milhaud accompanies.

Jane Bathori and Marguerite Long were Parisian performers of the same generation. Long lived from 1874 to 1966, Bathori from 1877 to 1970.
