    EM Forster transcribes the Anglo-Saxon lines, mentioning Toynbee’s title page, in his Commonplace Book, with the comment: “Again the bombers whirr (14-3-44) as I transcribe it.”

    This might have been one of the raids in the Battle of Berlin.
