“Peace demands the most heroic labor and the most difficult sacrifice. It demands greater heroism than war. It demands greater fidelity to the truth and a much more perfect purity of conscience ~ Thomas Merton

Quoted at On an Overgrown Path, a humane blog “about music”. I put those words in inverted commas, because music is not a closed subject, least of all here. OAOP is more interesting than Alex Ross’s The Rest Is Noise, though that has given its name to a perhaps over-praised book. You can still catch part of it read as Book of the Week on BBC Radio 4 via the BBC’s iPlayer.

Even though I touch on music in this blog, I refuse to put music in the list of “Categories” on the left, because I refuse to make a distinction between music and the rest of life, or between music and history.
